New Consumer Call Complaint Web Site Helps Stop Annoying Telemarketer Calls

Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) March 26, 2008 -- Telemarketers beware. A new consumer protection Web site aimed at fighting back against annoying phone calls has just launched, and it may be more effective than the government's own Do Not Call Registry. Anyone tired of unwanted phone calls can publicly post the caller's company name and phone number on www.CallerComplaints.com - along with a written complaint - free of charge.

The CallerComplaints service is intended to supplement existing government and consumer protection agency efforts to regulate telemarketing, by giving consumers another powerful way to band together and combat the telemarketer nuisance. The high-tech grass roots effort will effectively "tar and feather" unscrupulous telemarketers, scam artists, political campaigns that use automated robo-calls, and prank callers.

A nationwide Do-Not-Call Registry was launched at the end of 2003 by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), but less than three dozen law enforcement actions have been brought against violators since that time. In 2005, for example, the FTC reportedly issued a grand total of only five citations - despite the fact that the registry now contains more than 150 million numbers.

Plus, political and charitable solicitations are exempt from the federal no-call rules. Surveys are also exempt, as long as they do not involve a direct solicitation, and if you do business with any company they can call you for a year and a half without violating the laws.

But as complaints pile up on CallerComplaints.com against those who hire telemarketers - including consumer products companies and political organizations - they will be publicly exposed and embarrassed into discontinuing the rude practice. The user-generated database will also soon be upgraded to allow concerned and conscientious consumers to proactively search for companies by name before they shop. If the company engages in annoying telemarketing practices, customers can simply take their business to the competition.

As soon as those who hire overly-aggressive telemarketers understand that the effort is counterproductive - and is giving them a bad reputation viewed by millions of Internet users - the pesky practice will stop, once and for all. To do your part - and register your own gripes - just visit www.CallerComplaints.com and rant against those annoying calls.
